The manufacturing industry occupies an absolutely dominant place in China’s economic development. Of all the enterprises in China, 91% engages in manufacturing, accounting for 86% of the total sales income and 73% of the total profits respectively. However, as the production cost raises, Chinese manufacturing industry, which is already at the bottom of the “smile curve”, is confronted with an extremely severe situation. In 2008, Yueming Laser is also under the pressure of rising raw materials cost, labor cost, logistic expenses and lacking of energy. All these, however, doesn’t exert much impact on Yueming, which lies in the basic fact that Yueming has for years persisted in self-research and development policy and made breakthrough in low-level manufacturing. At present, Yuming Laser is the owner of seventeen patents (appearance patent excluded), various scientific and technological achievements, and its products are on the list of major new products in China and Guangdong respectively.

    In 2008, all enterprises in the manufacturing industry including Yueming were under influence from the rise of raw materials cost, labor cost, logistics expenses and lack of energy resources. However, Yueming was able to raise its competitiveness by speeding up efforts in self-research and development, industrial upgrading and strengthening cooperation with various colleges, universities as well as research institutes; by relying on technological innovation and weathered the adversities by exporting. Up to now, it has forged an industry-university-research institute relationship with over ten reputed colleges and universities including Tsinghua University, Jilin University, East China Normal University, South China University of Technology, Jiangsu University, Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nankai University, etc., and worked interactively with top-level talents and experts to make technological breakthroughs.

    Constantly striving Yueming people will never be satisfied with their current achievements, and with a few years rapid growth, it has turned into a medium-sized manufacturer of laser machining equipments, and the largest producer of small and medium power laser machining equipments in Asia. For a consecutive three years, Yueming remained a medium-sized manufacturer. Therefore, the decision-making management of Yueming has to face this question: how to realize a glorious transformation? How to achieve rapid growth? Just like a phoenix reborn from the fire, Yueming people, after three years’ of dreariness and by virtue of the chance of Dongguan’s social economic dual transformation, constantly promote the application of this new technology of laser machining by putting into full play “the universal machining”, “the quickest blade” and “the most accurate ruler” of laser machining, and achieved self development while popularizing the application of laser machining technology.

    During my interview with Mr. Zhuo Jiansong, Managing Director of Yueming Laser, he showed his resolution for development. When I mentioned the development speed, he replied resolutely, “To double the sales income in the coming two or three years and to develop Yueming into a large-scale enterprise specializing on the research and production of laser machining equipments. This is no slogan; it must and will be realized. The enterprise will quicken its development by taking the following measures. Firstly, introduce technology. The enterprise shall introduce advanced and creative concepts of design, to fully absorb the module design method of laser machining equipment overseas, to actively utilize new and outstanding scientific and technological achievements at home and abroad in an effort to optimize various modules for overall improvement. Secondly, in recent years, Yueming has invested about 10 million in research and development every year to set up a research and production base for laser machining equipments. In particular, it stuck to its own design concepts and philosophy for axial flow CO2 laser, and laid a solid foundation for the research and development of core technology of self-owned intellectual property thanks to its understanding of the core technology. Such huge investment in research and development was aimed to its development in the future.

    Thirdly, adhere to the development path of combining industryryge investment in research and development was aimed to development in the future. the strategy of "r with universities and research institutes. Yueming actively promotes the establishment of a market-oriented technological innovation system with the enterprise as the main body and combines industry with universities and research institutes, the assembling of advantageous innovative resources domestically and realization of the strategy of “dual transfer” of industry and labor so as to seek better and quicker development during this process.
